Just popping in to say this is all very good advice which I may link to instead of having to articulate any of it myself :D

Some other things I have learned that may not be relevant to you for a while: -it is much cheaper to buy a new dragon than try and change a dragon you already have via scrolls. So if you want to get new breeds or genes (like shininess or stripes) see how much such dragons cost at the AH (auction house) and save up for them or find someone willing to swap for something you already have. Dragon prices tend to drop over time. -Usually the best way to search the AH is to put 0 to 1000000 in the treasure boxes and "price ascending". -When you gather, different regions have different animals etc, try and gather a bit from all the different regions so you have a range of stuff to sell to Crim. -it is a pain to find someone from just their username, always give your lair number as well (or a link). -exalting is a quick way to make money from unwanted dragons, but you can usually make more money by selling them and it is a BAD IDEA to exalt your progenitors. -different breeds have different colliseum fighting styles (eg faes tend towards magic, guardians towards physical damage) and it's often easier to get a new dragon than respec one you already have. You need at least 3 named adult dragons to fight, the rewards are usually pretty small but sometimes you get familiars/chests etc.

And I also have way too much fun opening chests to sell them :)
