Brief Flight Rising registration opening!

The game that's filled my Glitch emptiness the best has been the dragon breeding game Flight Rising. I haven't posted about it here because registrations were closed, but they are open today/tomorrow for a few hours: Tuesday, September 3rd from 5:00AM to 8:00AM PST. They plan to try opening registrations again after that once they see how the servers handle the load, so if you miss out subscribe to the tumblr etc and you should be able to get in eventually.

It's not inherently social, but is a lot of fun if you play with friends and swap dragons and go "LOOK HOW PRETTY THIS ONE IS" etc. And the treasure grinding games are fun.

If any of you are already playing I'm sqbr there (lookit my pretty dragons!)

EDIT: some useful advice for creating an account

The only reason I can think of not to breed your progenitors immediately is if somebody is going to give you ready-to-breed dragons very soon and you want to breed one or both of your progenitors with those.

There are TONS of "do this every day" things on FR! Here are the ones I remember off the top of my head:

- Feed your dragons, multiple times a day if possible but definitely at least once, using the button in the top right corner of your lair

- Look at your Nesting Grounds and do some combination of breeding dragons, incubating nests, and hatching, depending which nests are empty, incubating, or ready to hatch.

- Hit up the Trading Post to get a free item from Pinkerton. You can also check out Crim (refreshes hourly) and Swipp (refreshes every few hours) while you're there.

- Gather items! This is useful for feeding your dragons, plus you can get interesting junk from Digging and Scavenging.

- Head back to your lair. If any of your dragons have familiars (and if they don't, you should give them some), you can bond with each familiar once daily. Bonding gives you a little bit of cash, and as each familiar levels up in its love for you, it will give you a treasure chest on progressing to each stage. The amount of money you get from bonding goes up by 5 with each level, and after a few levels the chests start getting nicer too. Plus there is cute flavour text. I love familiars so much.

- There's a daily limit on the amount of treasure you can earn at the Fairgrounds, so it's probably worth hitting up your favourite game once a day to earn a little more. Not that I have ever actually hit that cap. Fairgrounds earning tips: Finishing a jigsaw puzzle faster doesn't seem to get you any more treasure; Hi/Lo doesn't contribute to the cap, but it doesn't earn you much either; reciting the Runestones cards out loud helps me remember them for longer after I've seen them; easier Shock Switch modes earn more treasure per point, at least for now, so play on Very Easy and summon a lot of blocks if you want to get rich quick.

Hope this helps! :D

Thanks! (I figured you were probably Jokes. Or Jokes was you. Or however that works.)

Progenitors bred. Breeding. Whatever. There are eggs.

I could... buy familiars at the market/auction thing? I don't have much treasure yet; is it good to get a familiar, any familiar, right away, or should I wait for the ability to get a "good" one? (What's a good one?)

I have no idea what kind of Stuff is valuable; sorting out the market will take me a while. Does it have a Glitchy approach to acquisition of Stuff? (I.e. "collect everything that's free; you'll use it all eventually; don't pay for anything until you figure out whether you have a use for it?")

Is there any reason not to immediately open chests and find out what's inside? Is there a limit on how big a hoard can get?

...you don't have to answer (or don't have to answer these questions) if that's troublesome. Mainly looking for answers to "ok, I'm here... now what?"

"Good" familiars are just more rare and expensive. There is not anything inherently different about how they work in the game, except that you can only have one of each kind of familiar in your lair - if one of your dragons has a Luna Mith, you have no use for a second Luna Mith because a second dragon can't take it. I always go for the cheapest familiar I can find, in the auction house or the marketplace, when I have more dragons than familiars. (Sometimes I have more familiars than dragons, and then I end up swapping out a bunch of familiars onto one dragon to bond with them all - you can do that and it won't lose you anything.)

"collect everything that's free; you'll use it all eventually; don't pay for anything until you figure out whether you have a use for it?" is definitely my strategy when it comes to Stuff. I especially like having as much of as much stuff as possible because Crim the Collector asks for random objects at twice the price you'll get for using the 'sell' option in your hoard, and the more random objects I've got, the likelier I will have whatever she wants at any given time. (Sometimes she asks way less than something is actually worth - I usually don't sell battle stones to her, and you definitely shouldn't sell scrolls to her; it is almost never worth it.)

I love love love opening treasure chests, so I open all the ones I get. Other people might prefer to collect and/or sell them. Selling them might be more profitable, but to me at least, opening them is much more fun.

There is not a limit on how big a hoard can get, as far as I know.

I am happy to help! :D

Good to know I can just open chests. I was worried that there might be better times to open them or something like that, not whether it was better to open or sell as mysteries. (Anything with variable contents is going to have a market; I'm not going to be interested in that market anytime soon.)
