Characters with disabilities, please (in the "Suggestions" forum); there's no official answer from the devs, but other discussions show they're paying attention to what players want and interested in giving options. Many players reject the idea of random/mandatory disabilities, but consensus is that being able to have them would be great.

We are still discussing on the development side the route to take with this one. It is possible to do the third option of a non-gendered Seed but we need to weigh out how this affects development and priority with all parts of the project. At this stage adjusting some of these options and offering more choices does affect the current workload of animators and character modellers. As always we want to listen to the community and support your input where we can but we've also said that we will be up front with you when something can't be done or may have to take a backseat to other systems and at this stage, this is one of those requests that will have to take a backseat until we can work out the details. Sorry guys!"
So: They're not unsupportive of the the concept, but since alpha opens in July, they're not likely to have nongendered options by then. However, beta is scheduled for the start of next year, and I'm hopeful it'll be available by then, esp. if people keep talking about it.
Nongendered player options (in suggestions), much longer thread (5 pages), including the standard cismale reactions: "OMG, how would I know what pronouns to use?!? Also, there are only TWO genders; that's a scientific FACT."
I'm always fascinated by people who scream about "scientific FACT" when it comes to gender, but they're perfectly happy to have characters who regenerate after death. (We did slam down the "fact" clams.)
ETA: Official Mod Responses to a lot of threads, gathered into a single post in rev-chron order (newest at top). May not be entirely understandable without the context, but gives some sense of how the mods are talking with players.
